The School of Business, Economics and Law has received a third international accreditation - AACSB. It thus becomes the only business school in Sweden that is what is popularly referred to as “Triple Crown” accredited. In this exclusive group includes, among others, London Business School, Antai at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, INSEAD in France and Copenhagen Business School..
The School is already EQUIS and AMBA accredited. Along with AACSB, these are the three most prestigious international accreditations for business schools. They are different in nature and complement each other. Only around 70 business schools in the world (approx. 0.5%) have all three distinctions and are thus popularly referred to as “Triple Crown” accredited.
This is valuable proof that the School's courses, programmes, research and collaborations maintain an internationally high quality. The accreditation confirms that we are a strong business school, active in an international arena and continually developing in line with the requirements and changes around us. The accreditations additionally strengthen our brand and are, in many cases, prerequisite for collaborations (e.g. student exchanges) with the world’s best business schools.
Gaining accreditation revolves around ensuring the quality of; our education; our research; and, our collaboration with industry and society. We do this by having clear targets and processes for continuous quality management initiatives. Even if the accreditations relate primarily to business administration, they mirror the strength throughout the School’s operations. Similarly, the evaluation process that led to accreditation is also of benefit to the School as a whole.
“Sweden’s and Gothenburg’s reputations as interesting places to live and study in are strengthened by the School of Business, Economics and Law gaining this distinction. In both the short and the long term, it will help us attract highly qualified manpower to Volvo in the Gothenburg region.”
Kerstin Renard, Executive Vice President, Group Group Human Resources, Volvo Group.
“The fact that the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg has strengthened its position as a global university is important to Swedish industry. The ‘Triple Crown’ accreditation will attract the world’s ‘top brass’ to Gothenburg, making it even more relevant in research and as a base for recruitment.”
Alrik Danielson, President and CEO of SKF.
The accreditations EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB are international recognitions of quality of the organisation.
Each of the three accreditations has a unique focus and by achieving all three, the School ensures that it is a high-quality institution of higher education and that is has rigorous processes in place for continuous quality improvement.
The School obtained its first EQUIS accreditation in 2004 and was re-accredited in 2009 and in 2014.
EQUIS assesses the whole institution and has a strong focus on governance and strategy, research, internationalisation, ethics, responsibility and sustainability and collaboration with the business community. There are currently about 150 EQUIS-accredited business schools around the world.
In 2013 the School obtained AMBA accreditation for its Executive MBA programme. We are thereby the only AMBA-accredited School in Sweden.
AMBA accredits MBA programmes and the assessment is based on the quality of the education, the curricula and the interaction with the participants. There are about 230 AMBA-accredited schools around the world.
The School obtained its first AACSB accreditation in 2016.
AACSB assesses programmes but accredits institutions. AACSB focuses on governance, mission, faculty qualifications and learning. There are about 750 AACSB accredited business schools around the world.
