Göran Carstedt - new visiting professor at the School of Business, Economics and Law

Göran Carstedt, a respected businessman with extensive experience in senior managerial positions in multinational and international organisations such as Volvo, IKEA, the Clinton Climate Initiative and The Society for Organizational Learning at MIT, has been appointed as the new holder of the Assar Gabrielsson Visiting Professorship in Applied Corporate Management at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

Göran Carstedt holds a PhD in Business Administration and is an internationally recognised expert in leadership and organisational learning and change. He has been engaged as an expert and moderator at high levels in development projects in South Africa, China and North America, among other places. In his work for a sustainable society, he brings together logic and science with an understanding for people’s inner needs and motivations.

He has an astounding list of accomplishments, and among his professional assignments he has served as chairman and/or member of various boards of directors, including Q-Med AB, Stadium AB and the Stockholm-based innovation company, Peepoople AB. He has been a Senior Director in the Clinton Climate Initiative, in which the 40 largest cities of the world have been grouped together by former US President Bill Clinton, with the aim of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.

Göran Carstedt also has many years of experience in senior management positions within the Volvo Group, including head of Volvo Group Planning, Managing Director of Volvo Cars in France, President of Volvo Svenska Bil AB, and member of Volvo’s Corporate Group Council. Additionally, he has been head of IKEA North America and IKEA Europe, and a member of the IKEA Group senior management.

Göran Carstedt’s position as holder of the Assar Gabrielsson Visiting Professorship in Applied Corporate Management relates to the period from 1 March 2015 until 28 February 2016.

About the Assar Gabrielsson Professorship
The professorship was initiated in 1999 in memory of Assar Gabrielsson and is funded through a gift from the foundation Stiftelsen Göteborgs Handelshögskolefond. The purpose of the professorship is to provide students with wider knowledge regarding application of the theories in economics and leadership that they encounter in their studies. Among former holders of the Professorship, the following names can be mentioned: Inga-Britt Ahlenius, Björn Stigson, Lennart Jeansson and Marianne Nivert.
