GMAT/GRE General Test

GMAT/GRE General Test as a selection tool at the Graduate School

The selection of students for all our Master programmes is based on the GMAT or GRE General Test results. Students have to submit a test result from one of the tests. There will not be a lower score limit for admission 2012. In August 2011, the GRE revised General Test replaced the GRE® General Test. Graduate School accepts both tests.

Deadline for submitting the test result:

International students: 1 February 2012 (please visit "How to apply?" for more information)

Swedish students: 15 April 2012 (please visit "How to apply?" for more information)

Unfortunately Graduate School has no possibility to confirm receipt of the test result.

GMAT

About the test

GMAT consists of three main parts:
Analytical Writing, of two essays, in which in the first the candidate has to analyze an argument and, in the second, the candidate has to analyze an issue. Each part has to be completed within 30 minutes and is graded on a scale of 0-6.
Quantitative Section includes 37 multiple choice questions which must be answered in 75 minutes, and the questions concern problem solving and data sufficiency. This section is scored from 0-60 points.
Verbal Section contains 41 multiple choice questions to be answered within 75 minutes. These questions consist of sentence correction, critical reasoning and reading comprehension. It is scored from 0-60.

You receive a preliminary result directly after you have finished the exam. The part Analytical Writing is corrected separately and is added to the final official score that is sent to the candidate and the school chosen by the candidate approximately three weeks after the test date. Your score result is valid for 5 years.

How to prepare for the exam

Candidates are advised to study for the GMAT exam for 30-45 days before taking the exam. Study material can be found online at http://www.mba.com, where GMAT prep can be downloaded.

On the exam day

Bring the correct ID when taking the GMAT exam. Security is a vital part of the exam check-in and is described on http://www.mba.com. It is most important that you bring valid ID when you check-in for your exam. We therefore recommend that you bring your passport with you, especially if you are an international candidate. When you take the test at a test center outside your native country, i.e. if you are a Norwegian candidate taking your GMAT exam in Sweden, then you must have a passport as your form of ID. Swedish candidates can use their passport, driving license, and ID card issued by the Tax Authority (Skatteverket). It is also required that you take your appointment confirmation receipt with you.

ID verification at the test center includes verification of your passport or other form of primary ID as stated above, a palm print, taking your photograph. Candidates will also be visually monitored during the whole of their examination. Candidates who do not comply with the required check-in and ID procedure will not be permitted to test and will forfeit their test fee.

Food, drinks and tobacco as well as cell phones or other electronic devices are not allowed in the testing room. No personal items are allowed in the testing room.

Candidates who have a handicap either physical or cognitive can have assistance arranged for them. If you plan to take the test in Gothenburg, please contact madelen.hansson@gs.gu.se for further information.
