ISO14001 certified for a better environment

Since 2006, the School and the University of Gothenburg as a whole are environmentally certified according to ISO 14001 and registered under the EU environmental regulation, EMAS. This makes the School unique in the world; no other universes have both these certifications. An environmental management system requires systematical improvement and organization of activities related sustainability. Many organizations and companies are today strongly influenced by the structure found in ISO14001.

In the report “Best Green University Practice” (M. Faghihimani, 2010) the School and the University were internationally recognized for their environmental and sustainability work. The University shared first place together with the North American universities MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and UBC, University of British Columbia.

The University has also achieved maximum score in the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency ranking of universities environmental reporting since this started in 2010.

The School has an Action Plan for Environment and Sustainable Development that consists of the following seven areas. In the yearly audits with ISO14001 auditors the school is held accountable for the goals and missions set up in this plan:

1. Education
2. Research
3. Cooperation with Society
4. Competence Development
5. Climate Impact
6. Resources Consumption
7. Student Participation
