Thanks to generous support from the Elof Hansson Foundation, the School of Business, Economics and Law is able to recruit three internationally leading visiting professors in the area of international business and trade. The initiative, ‘Elof Hansson Visiting Professor Programme in International Business and Trade,’ will run for three years.
‘The generous contribution from the Elof Hansson Foundation enables us to recruit a group of internationally leading researchers, which strengthens our research and education in an area of very high societal relevance, and thus the school’s position on the global map,’ says dean Per Cramér.
‘The Elof Hansson Foundation has always been keen to support mercantile education in Gothenburg. Following discussions with the management of the School of Business, Economics and Law, the foundation is pleased to be able to contribute to the financing of the three visiting professors, completely in line with the foundation’s purpose rules,’ says the foundation’s chair, Peter Hentz.
The four professors are:
Christian Gollier, Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), Toulouse, France
An international top name in economics, and co-founder of the TSE alongside Nobel laureate Jean Tirole. Professor Gollier will collaborate with the school’s professor Thomas Sterner, and will contribute to research and education in the areas of Economics of Uncertainty, Finance, Insurance, and Environmental Economics.
Martin Shanahan, School of Commerce, University of South Australia, Adelaide, Australia
An internationally leading researcher in business history and economic history. Professor Shanahan will participate in research projects on international cartels, the politics of economics, national and international regulation in a long term perspective, and the contributions of indigenous populations to international trade.
Sylvie Chetty, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand
An internationally leading researcher in International Business, with expertise in many areas, such as the internationalisation of firms with a focus on the significance of networks and internationalisation of entrepreneurial firms. Professor Chetty will collaborate with the school’s Center for International Business Studies, for instance in projects concerning the internationalisation of Nordic firms working in digital health. She will also teach at the International Business and Trade Master’s programme.
Anne Goodchild, Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Center, Univerity of Washington, USA
An international freight and logistics expert, Professor Goodchild is renowned for research discoveries powered by collaborations with the public and private sector. Over her career Dr. Goodchild has made contributions to marine terminal operations and planning, international border operations, regional freight modeling, and urban freight transportation. Professor Anne Goodchild will collaborate with GU Professors Michael Browne and Johan Woxenius on urban freight, microhubs, and last-mile distribution. This research aims to contribute to reduced social and environmental costs of urban freight activity.
The School of Business, Economics and Law has, since 2009, thanks to extensive support from trade and industry, been able to recruit internationally leading visiting professors in two rounds, within the framework of the international visiting professor programme. The professors have been contracted for a period of three years, during which they spend one to two months per year at the school. The visiting professor programme contributes to the development of research, improves the quality of the courses, and creates a lasting network for international research collaboration.
The previous round of the programme (2014 – 2018) had sustainability as its common denominator for the participating professors. This time, focus is on international business and trade, and the ‘Elof Hansson Visiting Professor Programme in International Business and Trade’ has been made possible through generous support from the Elof Hansson Foundation. The Foundation supports academic education, research and training in the commercial sector. The main focus is on trade and business activities such as marketing, international trade, accounting, commercial law and business language.
