The Department of Economics climbs in international ranking

News: Jun 03, 2020

For the second year in a row, the Department of Economics climbs in the Tilburg University Economics Ranking of economics institutions in the world – a long-term effort to raise the quality of research through, among other things, investments in international recruitment now pays off.

"It is gratifying to note that our strategic quality work yields results", says Måns Söderbom, professor of economics and department head.

According to the Tilburg University Economics Ranking for the period 2015–2019, the Department of Economics with statistics at the School of Economics is ranked 86th in the world (92nd in 2019) and 32nd among European universities (34th in 2019). The research ranking is based on published articles in 79 journals in economics, econometrics and financial economics.

"Over the last 10 years, we have become much better at recruiting and retaining really good researchers, and this has resulted in a boost for the entire department. Now we strive to be even better", says Måns Söderbom.

For over a decade, the department has worked on a strategy aimed at reaching more publications in highly ranked journals, better results in international rankings and, above all, higher quality research.
