Josefin Höijer studies MSc Accounting & Financial Management

Josefin Höijer studied parts of her Bachelor’s degree at Stirling University in Scotland and parts of it at the School of Business, Economics and Law. When it was time to apply for her Master’s studies she decided to continue at the School. Today she studies MSc Accounting and Financial Management.

How did you choose university and programme when you were going to study your Master’s?
- I trusted recommendations a lot. I had heard testimonials from several students that were studying their master’s at The School and they were all so content and happy with their programme. Since I studied a few courses during my Bachelor's at the School I could also base my decision on my own experience from being a student here – I really like the location, my classmates and the lecturers. In my research to find out which program to apply for I went through the course syllabus to see which courses that were most relevant for my interest and I also did some research on career possibilities after graduation. For me it was important to choose a programme that I would enjoy during my studies since I knew that would keep me motivated.

How did you become interested in business?
- Business in general interests me since the corporate world affects the development in a large extend and their work can really make a difference in the society. A part from that I like figures so I guess I realised that the combination of these two fields of interest could be combined in the MSc programme Accounting and Financial Management.

What it is like being a student in Gothenburg?
- I really like Gothenburg and the vibe you get here. People are friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The student life at The School of Business, Economics and Law is great since we have many different associations, the Student Union and our own pub. Another advantage with Gothenburg is that there are several large companies based here which enables students to have a part time job on the side.

Can you describe ”a regular day at The School”?
- Normally we have one lecture or seminar a day, usually for about three hours. Even though we don’t have full days of lectures I spend my whole days at the school. We have group assignments and papers to hand in. I also spend a lot of time in the library.

Why would you recommend The School of Business, Economics and Law?
- The School offers high quality programmes and it is a prestigious school, which I think will be a positive thing after graduation. The atmosphere among the fellow students is worth mentioning as well. All my classmates are highly motivated and ambitious, which makes it so much fun studying here! The School also collaborates with many different companies and the close connection to the trade and the industry is something that I value highly. The possibility of being able to go abroad for exchange studies is also a reason to recommend The School, we have about 160 different partner universities to choose from.
