Research centres

In addition to the research groups within the departments, the School has built up research capacity within more focused and multi-disciplinarily organized units. These research centers have been created to promote creativity, innovation, and impact. Most of them have strong engagement with external stakeholders; the centers sometimes serve as platforms where corporate partners and researchers meet to collaborate on a specific research topic. Many of the centers are connected to the School’s prioritized research areas and specialized master’s programs.

There are essentially two types of centers: within-school research centers, which are formally organized within a single department of the School, and cross-school research centers, which are operated jointly with other faculties at the University but have their administrative base at the School.

The within-school centres often reflect a response to the corporate sector’s need to have an interface to a specific research area of applied character, and as such these centers make a very direct impact on society. The cross-school research centers are created in response to the need for multidisciplinary approaches in certain research areas of high societal relevance.
