Future Mobility

When:
30 January 2018, 13:15-16:00
Where: Handelshögskolan, Vasagatan 1, Göteborg, Aulan
>> Welcome to register here

This event is arranged in cooperation between Reväst, the Partnership Programme at Handelshögskolan and the School’s Sustainability Days.

In the mobility sector two clear trends have emerged: electrification and autonomous driving (self-driving).
Are the science fiction dreams of the 20th century finally about to become reality?

The ‘buzz’ of high performance electric cars has been dominated by Tesla, but now they are being challenged from both traditional car manufacturers and smaller new actors. Are we in the beginning of a disruptive shift, were diesel and perhaps also gasoline quickly will be phased out? Or will this rather be a gradual development over decades? When will electric cars, buses and trucks become mainstream? What new business models will emerge, if access and not ownership is what matters in the new economy?

Participants:
Maria Schnurr, researcher in sustainable mobility and urban development at RISE, Research Institutes of Sweden. She will highlight important trends in the mobility sector and address potential sustainability implications in the sector. Has previous experience from the automotive industry and with strategic foresight consulting on mobility in Germany.

Francis Sprei, researcher at Chalmers University of Technology. She will address personal mobility options such as electric vehicles as well as car sharing practices now and in the future, as well as economic, political and technical behavior related to personal mobility.

Stuart Templar, Director of Sustainability at Volvo Cars. In 2019 Volvo Cars will introduce their first fully electric vehicle to the market and are planning one of the world’s biggest public test of autonomous vehicles in Gothenburg. Volvo aims to be in the forefront of the revolution within the car industry towards electric, connected and self-driving cars.

Albin Wilson, Art Director at Uniti, a new Swedish automotive brand that just launched their electric urban twoseater. Uniti aims to deliver cars to customer by the end of 2018 through Mediamarkt. Uniti describe their product as a high performance electric car designed for agility and safety in an urban environment with focus on sustainability and a modern user experience – the car has no steering wheel for example.

Moderator:
Olof Johansson Stenman, Professor of Economics and Vice Dean at the School of Business, Economics and Law. Also chairman for the School’s Council for Sustainable Development.
